They aren\u2019t the same sport, but they have enough in common that a viewer asked Johnny if he ever experienced a closeted romance like Ilya and Shayne&#8217;s. With that in mind, a fan wanted to know if he had any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/2026\/01\/15\/heated-rivalry-inspires-real-life-hockey-player-come-out-gay\/\">experiences with closeted athletes<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wish I could just throw a name at you,\u201d Johnny began, before delivering the poignant answer that the question deserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c[Heated Rivalry] was so special and impactful to see because figure skating has a reputation for being very sparkly and very gay, but generally we have to keep it behind closed doors as well because you want people to judge what you\u2019re doing on the ice more than who you are.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnny also pointed out that figure skating judges typically skew older. That can make it even trickier for athletes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/2026\/01\/15\/nhl-paul-bissonnette-opinion-heated-rivalry-success\/\">live their truth<\/a>. It&#8217;s a journey that Johnny appreciated seeing on television, beyond just the surface-level steamy moments <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/2026\/01\/02\/heated-rivalry-connor-storrie-shirtless-magazine-cover-reaction-behind-the-blinds\/\">people are drooling over<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was just so thankful that they made that show,\u201d Johnny said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johnny <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realitytea.com\/2026\/01\/21\/the-traitors-johnny-weir-surprises-filming-wwhl-andy-cohen\/\">gave a great answer<\/a>, but of course, host <a href=\"\/tag\/andy-cohen\">Andy Cohen<\/a> refused to let him get away without circling back to the original question.
